iPhone to be available in India through Vodafone and Airtel

We reported earlier that the iPhone would probably be hitting Indian shores in September, courtesy of Vodafone.

Interestingly, both the leading carriers in India, Vodafone and Bharti Airtel ( via SingTel ) have released official press releases that they would be bringing the iPhone to India later this year. However, neither of the press releases divulged any information about the exclusivity of the iPhone or the price it would be available for.

With the 3G iPhone imminent this June, it would be interesting to see which version of the iPhone is brought here. Do we get the iPhone v2.0 with 3G and GPS, or is the old version dumped here ?

Vodafone cuts STD rates

Competition benefits the customers, they say.

This has been proven true with the recent move by Vodafone where it has announced a reduction in the STD tariffs. Recently, after Airtel announced a reduction in the tariffs, Vodafone has gone a step further but tonig down the STD rates to Rs. 1.30 pm, a good 20 paise less then Airtel.

When on roaming, the customers can make STD calls @ Rs. 1.50 pm and accept incoming calls at Re 1 pm only.

Now, let’s just wait and see what the other operators have in store.
